A practical exam is nerve-racking, mainly because you do not know exactly what to expect. That is what the interim test is for: a mock exam at the CBR, somewhere halfway through your course. At ReykR it is included in both lesson packages.
What is the interim test?
The test lasts as long as the real practical exam and has the same parts. A CBR examiner drives with you and gives you feedback afterwards: what went well and what you still need to work on. The result does not count towards your licence, so you can experience the exam situation with nothing at stake.
When do you take it?
The best moment is when you have completed about two thirds of your course. You do need to have passed your theory exam. The driving school books the test for you at the CBR. Bring a valid ID on the day itself, or you cannot take the test.
What does it give you?
- Experience of the exam situation. You know how it goes, how an examiner works and how long the drive takes. On your real exam, none of that is a surprise.
- Feedback from an examiner. You hear where you stand from someone who conducts exams, on top of what you hear in your lessons.
- Possibly an exemption. If you perform the special manoeuvres well, smoothly and safely, such as parallel parking, turning the car around and reversing, you are exempted from them. The examiner then skips that part at your next practical exam.
Note: the exemption only applies to your first practical exam after the test. If you fail that exam, it lapses.
After the test
After the test we go through the examiner’s feedback together and adjust the final lessons accordingly. That way you go to your exam focused and confident. Over 72% of ReykR learners pass first time.
