From the age of 16½ you can start your driving lessons. That may be a moment you have been eagerly waiting for; a licence opens up a whole new world for you! At the same time it is a step to take carefully, because going on the road as a driver is a real responsibility.
From the day you turn 17 you can take your driving exam. Once you have passed, until your 18th birthday you may only drive accompanied by the coach(es) you have chosen. You can find more information at www.2todrive.nl.
What can you expect at ReykR?
Every lesson I make sure there is an open and relaxed atmosphere in the car so you feel comfortable. That way you learn to drive easily and in a fun way. Of course it is not only fun; we do have to learn something. The lessons are structured and we build up from easy to difficult, all while you stay in control: you decide when we push on or slow down.
Learning at your own pace means you get used to the car, so you can take part in traffic safely and calmly. You get the time that you need, so you can learn and perform at your best and finally take your practical exam full of confidence and pass!

As soon as you have signed up, I get in touch and we go through everything. You then have every opportunity, together with your parents if you like, to ask questions. I find personal contact important, both before and during your course.
Did you know that from the day you start your lessons up to the day of your exam, you drive the same car with the same instructor? And that the lessons always start and finish at your home address? Nice and relaxed! (Another location is of course possible by arrangement.)
I am also trained as an exam-anxiety instructor, which means I can recognise physical signs of anxiety and turn them around. Any blocks during tests and exams can be turned into more calm, a growth mindset and better performance. That boosts your confidence and improves your chance of passing.

The RIS method: learn to drive step by step
At your first lesson you get the RIS lesson book. This method, developed by the CBR, helps you learn to drive step by step. It adds structure and increases your chance of passing. The RIS book explains every part in detail with text, illustrations and even instruction videos. With RIS you learn to drive in four clear parts:
- 1. Operating and controlling the carPulling away, steering, changing gear and braking in quiet places, until you no longer think about it and your attention can go to the traffic.
- 2. Easy traffic situationsJunctions, right of way and roundabouts in the area and in Utrecht, where you will also take your exam.
- 3. Difficult traffic situationsDealing with everything that comes at you on the road. The busier through roads around Zeist and Driebergen and merging onto the motorway towards Utrecht, so busy traffic no longer surprises you.
- 4. Driving safely and responsiblyFollowing the satnav and carrying out exam tasks independently, with the interim test as a dress rehearsal.
Your progress is tracked every lesson, so you can always see how far you are and what you can still work on. You learn every new task in the same way: I demonstrate it, you drive it following my guidance and then you drive it on your own. As often as it takes until it becomes automatic and you hardly have to think about it any more.
Flexible lessons that fit your schedule.
How long the RIS course takes differs per learner. It depends on how much time you want to invest in your lessons each week. At ReykR the aim is to schedule a lesson every week, but in the end you decide. Whether you want to drive 60, 90 or 120 minutes per lesson, it is all possible! Whether you are busy with school, work, sport or an internship, it is important to schedule lessons at the times that suit you best. That way you are most relaxed in the car.
We always try to plan a few weeks ahead so you can set the pace of your course yourself. Busy period with tests or exams to study for and (almost) no time for lessons? No problem; you can skip a lesson and pick everything up again after that period.
Theory, driving lessons and the CBR.
You can start driving lessons even without your theory certificate. It is wise to already have a date booked for your theory exam. As soon as you have passed your theory, we can book your exam with the CBR. But note: that is only possible once you have passed your theory exam!

The trial lesson takes about an hour. First we get to know each other calmly, then you drive yourself: we start somewhere quiet and as soon as you feel at ease we head into traffic. You notice straight away how the guidance feels and I see where you stand, so you get an honest estimate of the number of lessons you need. If you choose a completely no-obligation trial lesson, there are no strings attached. If you like it and then choose a lesson package, the trial lesson is free.
How many lessons do I need for my licence?
That differs per person: your age, previous experience and how often you take lessons all play a part. In the Netherlands the average is about 50 hours of driving lessons. At ReykR you choose the number of lesson hours that suits you. After your trial lesson you get a personal estimate and during your course we look at your progress together. If you have hours left, you simply get them back.
How long is a driving lesson?
Lessons usually last 60 or 90 minutes, from getting in to getting out. The 30-hour package contains 25 hours of driving, the interim test (2.5 hours) and the practical exam (2.5 hours). The 40-hour package has 35 hours of driving plus the same test and exam.
I feel insecure or have exam anxiety. Can I take lessons at ReykR?
Then you are in exactly the right place. I am trained as an exam-anxiety instructor and know how tension can get in the way of learning. We build the lessons up calmly from easy to difficult, with plenty of repetition and clear explanation, so you are always on familiar ground. Making mistakes is fine, that is how you learn. Towards the exam we practise extra with the interim test, so the exam situation is no longer a surprise.

You pass the theory yourself, but you do not have to figure it out alone. Once you have your theory certificate, you can take the practical exam. My tip: start the theory in good time, so your driving lessons connect well and you lose no time.
From what age can I take driving lessons?
